“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
Rev. Dr. Omoregie Amadasun lived a life wholly dedicated to God — marked by faith, humility, and tireless service. Born on June 26, 1934, in Evbokunden Iyekogba Village, Edo State, his journey from humble beginnings to a life of profound spiritual and social impact was guided by divine providence. After losing his father at a young age, his elder brother, Pa O.K.H. Amadasun, sacrificed his own education to support him — an act of love that inspired his lifelong commitment to service, mentorship, and education. His Christian journey began in 1952 at Ogbe Baptist Church (now Central Baptist Church, Benin City). What started as a school requirement became the turning point of his destiny. In 1955, he gave his life to Christ and was baptized by Rev. O.C. Robinson, and by 1959, he answered God’s call to full-time ministry under the mentorship of Rev. I.B. Nwosu. Together, they labored in evangelism and church planting, and he became known among the legendary “Nwosu pastors” — men renowned for faith, humility, and sacrificial service.
An ardent believer in education, Rev. Dr. Amadasun pursued theological and academic excellence throughout his life. He studied at the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso, and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, earning degrees in Theology, Education, and Counseling. At the age of 73, he achieved his Ph.D. in Leadership and Religious Studies, a testament to his perseverance and passion for lifelong learning. He served as Principal of several secondary schools, including Baptist High School and Army Day Secondary School, where he was admired for his fairness, discipline, and moral strength. In ministry, he rose to become the Executive Secretary (now President) of the Edo Baptist Conference (2000–2007), a period of remarkable transformation.
Under his leadership, the Conference witnessed tremendous growth and impact — the completion of the Conference Hall and President’s House, the establishment of the Baptist Children’s Academy, the reopening of the Baptist Clinic and Maternity, and the acquisition of the Mission House. He also began the 25,000-seater Edo Baptist Conference Secretariat, bringing it to an advanced stage before retirement.
He served as Vice Chairman of the Christian Council of Nigeria (Edo State Chapter) and on several committees of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, where his leadership and integrity earned him deep respect. The late Prof. Osadolor Imasogie, first indigenous President of the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, once described him as “an incorruptible minister of God.”
On October 16, 2024, the Lord called His faithful servant home. His passing left an immeasurable void, but his vision and legacy continue through the Rev. Dr. Omo Amadasun Foundation, which he personally launched during his 90th birthday celebration,
giving the first seed donation to establish its mission. The Foundation exists to carry on his legacy , to be his heart to think, and his hand to reach out, supporting pastors, educating their children, and extending the love of Christ through service, integrity, and generosity.
